dollar and yen gainedon Monday as sharp declines in Chinese and Europeanmanufacturing activity unnerved investors and pushed stockmarkets worldwide lower. The currencies have rallied over the last few months asinvestors reversed risky trades funded by cheap yen and dollarborrowings. Investors have also sought dollars as they pinnedtheir hopes on a substantial economic stimulus package from theincoming Obama administration.
