Johnson NEW YRK March 3 (Reuters) – The dollar rose against theyen on Tuesday after weak U. housing data and a warning fromFed Chairman Ben Bernanke that more must be done to securemarket stability enhanced the greenback’s safe-haven appeal.

The dollar index a gauge of the currency’s strength againsta basket of six other major currencies hit a three-year high onTuesday. But the greenback dipped against the yen. “The market focus has shifted from Japan to Europe and theUnited States” said Hideaki Inoue chief manager of forextrading at Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank. “We saw AIG’s results and will also get to see data showingthe latest economic conditions in the United States. Europeawaits the ECB’s rates decision. These factors and events are notexpected to favour their currencies” Inoue said.

Brazil Soy Trade Lifted By Favorable Forex This Week

The May soybean futures contract on the Chicago Board of Trade settled fourcents higher at $8. 48 a bushel on Tuesday. This compared to $8. 44 at the end oftrading on Monday.
